Motherland/Homeland

Exhibition
Wednesday, 24 February 2010 - Friday, 19 March 2010

Motherland, Homeland is an exhibition by the award-winning British photographer Simon Roberts, which explores notions of identity, attachment to home and land, and the relationship between people and place.

Motherland is a bold visual statement about contemporary Russia, fifteen years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Roberts travelled throughout Russia between July 2004 - August 2005, making pictures in over 200 locations, and creating one of the most extensive, comprehensive photographic accounts of this vast country by a Westerner.

The same themes of identity, memory, history and attachment to place - of belonging - resonate throughout We English, his most recent project, where Roberts travelled throughout England in a motorhome during 2008, for this portfolio of large-format tableaux photographs of the English at leisure.

The Private view for this event will take place on Thursday 4 March 2010 between 5pm - 8pm. The event will commence with 'a conversation with the artist' where Simon will be speaking to Professor Stephen Daniels from The University of Nottingham about his work, taking place in Bonington Lecture Theatre. This will be followed by a viewing of the exhibition from 6.30pm - 8pm in Bonington Atrium and Gallery.

If you would like to attend the Private view please RSVP to boningtongallery@ntu.ac.uk.

As we are based in the city centre of Nottingham we would advise visitors to this exhibition to use the park and ride services, or to catch the tram to the Nottingham Trent University stop. There is no visitor car parking available at the University.
