Beyond Ourselves
Beyond Ourselves brings together five innovative contemporary artists, demonstrating their different emotional
responses to understanding the natural phenomena in our universe.
Funded by the Arts Council, and coinciding with the Royal Society’s 350th anniversary and the British Art Show in Nottingham.
The varied works respond directly to man’s quest to understand the world and his place within it, with some marveling at our physical laws and others playfully imagining how these might be overturned. Exploring man’s passionate engagement with both physics and philosophy on an everyday level, Beyond Ourselves aims to inspire a new approach for contemporary artists.
'This is a fresh and thought provoking show in which these artists are encouraging the viewer to consider the role of imagination in our quest to understand our world better. Their interest lies in creating innovative work that seeks to inspire all of us to question what we know and do not know. I would like the viewer to feel as though a door has been opened for them',
Ingrid Hinton, Curator
