Wolstenholme Creative Space

Background

Originally a textile factory, Wolstenholme Creative Space (formerly known as Wolstenholme Projects) is an artist-led not-for-profit studio space and gallery, established over three years ago in Liverpool city centre at 11 Wolstenholme Square. As well as providing a unique atmosphere for exhibitions within its four rooms, the gallery has also played host to a number of inspirational and experimental live music acts.

Touched at WCS

Theme

As part of ‘Touched’, Wolstenholme Creative Space will house 3 exhibitions that each independently prescribe to the stimuli of Touched.

Submission(s) from the open call will create the third and final exhibition of our Biennial trilogy.

International 10: Touched

Touched will consist of new art that succeeds in affecting the viewer: art that moves us in mind, body and soul.

WCS Brief: With These Walls We Are Shaped

Exhibition Period: 12 – 28 November 2010

The work submitted should be a reaction to the space, which due to its unique state can create a range of sensory experiences. The gallery spaces consist of peeling paint, exposed plaster, woodwork, brick, light and dark spaces etc all in the one building. What sets us apart from established galleries and links us strongly with ‘Touched’ will be through the sensory experience of the gallery by the artist(s), they will be touched by the gallery through their work, which in turn touches the viewers. We are not just a plain, one-surface, white gallery, so one is touched physically and mentally by the space. The artists’ work will be site-specific in response to Wolstenholme Creative Space.

Submission Guidelines

The call out is broad in that we will accept submissions from individual artists of all art forms including visual, sound, digital, performance artists / collectives / curatorial collaboration suggestions– that respond directly or broadly to the themes discussed above.

The submissions must be new site-specific works in response to the Brief.

All submissions must be accompanied by a submission form with the technical requirements and dimensions of the proposed exhibition entry included, and all examples of work can be submitted on disc / as attachments / or via post where submissions should be no bigger than A4 and able to be posted easily through the door.

Submissions should be emailed to:
